A double arm torchiere sconce made of solid brass. The silhouette of this fixture was inspired by the lines of the 1931 Macchi M.C.72 racing seaplane, designed to compete in the Schneider Cup, in 1933 later set a world speed record for piston-engined seaplanes that stands today. Both the cup and backplate here are very wide, with shallow tapers, in contrast with the pair of long, slender bodies, each grasped in a cuff. The light of the sconce diffuses through the flared, opal shades.
